— The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services said Monday that insurance plans will soon be required to cover approved female contraception methods without any co-pays or deductibles. The new rules, to take effect next year, also require insurers to pay for for “well-woman visits,” screening for gestational diabetes and domestic violence counseling, among others services. “The Affordable Care Act helps stop health problems before they start,” said HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the announcement. “These historic guidelines are based on science and existing literature and will help ensure women get the preventive health benefits they need.”
