🔍 Two Former Senior FBI Officials Surrendered on Charges of Lying to Congress About 2020 Hunter Biden Matter

Two former senior FBI officials, Nikki Floris, 46, and Bradley Benavides, 56, surrendered on arrest warrants Friday morning, October 23. Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., says they are charged with lying to Congress about their roles on the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force during the 2020 election. CNN broke the story, and AP reports that Floris’s lawyers confirmed she has been charged. Pirro says the two lied about their roles in the FBI’s Hunter Biden investigations. She says one of them claimed to have learned about it “from Wikipedia,” even though there is evidence that they helped shape the public narrative about Hunter Biden’s laptop right before the election. Pirro said: “When senior FBI agents lie to Congress believing they are above the law, it’s time to bring the hammer of justice down on them.”

In August 2020, Floris was the FBI’s deputy assistant director for counterintelligence and Benavides led the Foreign Influence Task Force. On August 6, 2020, they gave Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson a “defensive” briefing, a warning that they could be targets of Russian disinformation. Republicans say that briefing was later leaked and used to paint the senators’ Hunter Biden investigation as Russian disinformation.

The House Judiciary Committee questioned Floris in 2023. Special counsel David Weiss already investigated Republican claims against Hunter Biden and brought only gun and tax charges. Hunter Biden was convicted and then pardoned by his father in late 2024. Pirro’s office has had several high profile grand jury rejections this year, and it is expected to formally announce the charges soon if they haven’t by the time you’re readying this, so more details are coming.
