Harvard president resigns. So what?

Even with her resignation, and it pains me to say it, the primary two reasons this woman was president of Harvard were: she was black, and she was a woman.  And one result is that truly worthy people of color, whether women or men, are stigmatized or discounted for positions they should be considered for.  And the entire system of DEI bears responsibility.  mrossol

It doesn’t matter who found the plagiarism or why, but there are now at least a half dozen examples of the Harvard president lifting phrases, words or more without attribution. Since she only has 11 papers, this might be as much as 50% of her work.

Honestly, this is the bare minimum. Perhaps before we choose academic leaders, we could spend a little of bit of time evaluating their scholarship.

I don’t believe a good administrator has to be a top researcher. In fact, the top researchers are usually bad leaders. But I do believe that you have to have a basic understanding of scholarship to be an academic leader. You have to understand what plagiarism is.

It is truly amazing how high Claudine Gay rose while failing to meet this basic standard.
